We’re Hiring: University Ministry Director

Citizens Church Sydney is hiring a University Ministry Director to pioneer a new work among university students in the heart of the City of Sydney.

About Citizens

Citizens Church Sydney is a church replant which launched in February 2026 in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Since then, we have already seen 41 people baptised and a growing community discovering the abundant life Jesus offers. We exist to reach the people of inner-city Sydney with the Gospel, and we believe the next chapter of that story is being written on university campuses.

The Opportunity

Over the last few years, something has been happening on university campuses around the world. At Asbury University (Kentucky USA) in February 2023, a Wednesday chapel service in a university auditorium turned into a 16-day student-led worship and prayer gathering, drawing an estimated 50,000 to 70,000 total visitors from around the world. Months later in September 2025, close to 6,000 students gathered at Auburn University for a worship event, resulting in the spontaneous mass baptism of nearly 350 students in the lake on campus at the end of the night.

We believe the same thing can happen here. More than 10% of the City of Sydney LGA's population are university students. They're intellectually curious, upwardly mobile, digitally connected, existentially dissatisfied – and they want their lives to count for something. We believe God is already at work among them, leading them toward Jesus as the answer to the deepest longings of their soul. We want to partner with what the Holy Spirit is already doing in this generation.

What You’ll Do

We're hiring a University Ministry Director to pioneer an expression of Citizens Church on campus at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). This isn't primarily about running an event or managing a program. It's about establishing a new work of the gospel; starting a movement of discipleship on campus, gathering the first few students, helping them to follow Jesus, and equipping them to raise others up to do the same.

The exact shape of the ministry (e.g. the type of gatherings, where and how we will meet etc.) is something we will explore and build together, as we gain a better understanding of the needs and opportunities on campus amongst the students.

What We’re Looking For

We're looking for someone with a burning heart to reach Gen Z – the “open generation” – with the gospel of Jesus Christ. If the following apply to you, you may well be the person we are looking for:

  • You carry a burden for the emerging generation that you haven't been able to shake

  • You have a heart for revival in our city

  • You have the courage to pioneer something brand new

  • You have a willingness to go first – you're not afraid to start small, but you’re also not afraid to dream big

  • You’re hungry to grow and learn as a leader of God’s people and a minister of the gospel
